The table has been developed with the model engineer or student in mind. The kit is complete, all castings, materials and screws are included. The gear and worm which would be awkward for the amateur to produce are supplied with the teeth finished. All remaining machining can be done in the lathe and drill press.
One of the difficulties encountered by amateurs, the accurate settling and machining required for satisfactory working of the worm and worm wheel, has been avoided by using a spur gear and worm, this enables inaccuracies in machining and any wear that may be encountered after prolonged usage to be readily adjusted by means of an eccentric bush. By using the worm’s helix angle to advantage, the hand wheel falls below the level of the table top, thus enabling an infinite unobstructed working diameter.
Instead of the usual table top, the table is fitted with a screwed mandrill. If ‘s this is made to the same dimensions as the owner’s lathe, then either face-plate or chuck can be screwed on, thus allowing a work piece to be transferred from the lathe to a milling machine while still held in it original setting. Another feature of this table is the facility of disengaging the dive, thus enabling the tale to rotate freely, a quick movement of a lever then re-engages table drive. The base of the table is a light alloy casting which machined on both faces to a width of 1 ½”. The morse taper hole in the center spindle allows the use of a collet chuck. The castings include a spindle blank complete finished with a No 2 morse taper.
