This is an antique brass 5 inch diameter Lunkenheimer 3 Chime Steam Whistle.  It reads LUNKENHEIMER on one side of the valve and 5 on the other side.  It measures overall 19 1/2 inches tall including the valve and weighs just over 22 pounds.  It has a 1 1/4 inch threaded inlet.  It is indeed 5 inches in diameter as indicated by the 5 on the side of the valve.  The valve insides are complete and the valve springs back and forth as it should when you pull the lever.  However, I have not tested it on air or steam.  Lunkenheimer 5 inch diameter chime whistles such as this one are extremely rare, hard to find, and very desirable among collectors.  This whistle is in excellent condition as you can see.  I do not see any damage or repairs at all.  There are some minor pipe wrench marks on the valve cap nut and on the hex nut at the bottom, though this is commonly found on steam whistles.  The bell is nice and smooth, very shiny, no dents or repairs, etc.  The acorn nut on top is flawless.  Please look closely at the photos as this is exactly what you will be buying.  Though most locomotive whistles are 6 inches in diameter, some are 5 inches in diameter.  This is a very nice, hard to find size steam whistle.
