This angle plate has been designed to provide a tool that is capable of holding work pieces at a specific angle and at the same time providing a rigid platform to withstand the cutting forces generated by a variety of machining processes.  Many adjustable angle-plates swing about a small diameter center pivot and are locked into position by means of a relatively small clamp screw.  While such an arrangement is perfectly satisfactory on the marking out table, it lacks the rigidity that is needed for holding work pieces while machining operations are undertaken.

As can be seen from the photograph, this angle-plate is supported and is swung around a large-diameter trunk  guide thus giving maximum support to the work piece.  The clamping is also positive, greatly eliminating the tendency for the table setting to alter under any load imposed by the cutter.  Another advantage of this design it that it reduces the overall height of the unit,

The kit of parts contains all the castings (which are iron), materials and screws needed.  Also included is a drawing and construction notes suggesting the machining methods to be followed.  Since this is a tool where accuracy is desirable, the flat surfaces on both the base and worktable are supplied surface ground.
